As part of a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programme, we carried out the annual overhaul and inspection of the gas booster systems at the BBC. These systems play a critical role in maintaining consistent gas pressure to support the reliable operation of essential building services and equipment.

Regular servicing is vital to maximise equipment lifespan, maintain efficiency, and identify potential issues before they develop into costly failures. Where gas boosters operate in particularly dusty or harsh environments, more frequent servicing is recommended to ensure continued reliability.

The Solution

Our annual overhaul followed a comprehensive maintenance schedule designed to keep the gas booster units operating safely and efficiently. During the service, we:

• Replaced seals and filters.
• Inspected valves and pistons for wear and performance.
• Tested pressure relief valves (PRVs) to verify safe operation.
• Checked the overall condition of the units and confirmed they were operating within specification.

In addition to the annual overhaul, we recommended adherence to a structured preventative maintenance schedule to maintain long-term performance:

• Daily: Check operating pressure, inspect for leaks, and monitor vibration.
• Monthly: Inspect filters and seals, check all safety features, and lubricate components in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Every Six Months: Replace worn seals where required, check all fasteners, and inspect pistons and diaphragms for signs of wear.
